Leadership

I entered the museum profession as a director. I founded one museum, transformed a second, and have provided guidance for others. Fellow at the Getty Leadership Institute (2011), the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG)-Kellogg School of Business (2012), and the George Washington University / Smithsonian 21st-Century Museum Leadership Institute (2015).

36 years in all areas of museum operations.

Advancement

Created funds where there were none. Built a $15 million endowment. Balanced budget every year.

Curatorial

Award-winning exhibitions and catalogues. Twice nominated for College Art Association’s (CAA) Alfred A. Barr, Jr. Award for outstanding exhibition catalogue: Winner (2009); HM (2019).

Collections

Developed curriculum- and student-centered strategies for building and shaping collections on an academic campus. Designed and directed a comprehensive reorganization, digitization, and web-based presentation of collections. Directed several collections conservation initiatives.

Bricks & Mortar

Creative Reuse. Transformed an historic Carnegie Library (1907) into a museum. Created an education center out of a studio. Made a curriculum gallery out of crate storage. Increased the square footage of existing museum footprint by 70%.

Ink & Paper

A lifetime of putting ideas on paper. Extensive experience with scholarly research, writing, editing, graphic design, printing, publishing, distribution.

Classroom

Professor of record for 34 years. Tenured. Extraordinary range of courses, seminars, and lectures in Art and Architectural History and Museum Studies.
